The subscription renews. The older console library slows down.

PlayStation’s current Plus information says PS4 games have been added less frequently to monthly selections and Game Catalog updates from January 2026. The same service page describes PlayStation Plus as an ongoing subscription that continues until cancelled and is charged at the then-current PlayStation Store price.

This is not an allegation of wrongdoing. Sony is stating a product policy. For people still using PS4 hardware, however, the policy illustrates a familiar subscription reality: the platform chooses when a generation becomes a lower priority, while access to the subscription itself continues on the ordinary renewal path.

A rotating catalogue is not a collection

A subscription library can be useful discovery, but it is not a durable promise about a particular game or a particular generation of hardware. Titles can rotate out, eligibility can change and a service can move its editorial focus without a single item being visibly removed from a personal shelf.

Treat catalogue access as temporary when a game matters to you. Keep saves where the platform permits it, check whether a title is leaving, and choose a purchase or physical copy only when you need a longer-term right to revisit it. The decision should be yours, not a surprise created by a monthly refresh list.
